Our Club President Dave has recently visited clubs in New Zealand where they have a Pot Luck Supper as a social event.  Every member is welcome and all you have to bring, apart from yourselves is an item of food and the drink to share on the buffet table.  It would appear this also happens to some clubs in the UK where they are held on a Friday and called TGIF (Thanks Goodness it's Friday).

So Dave organised one for Grays Thurrock …

An enjoyable evening was had at President Dave Wheatley’s house and garden on Friday 31st July.  This was a Club Fifth Thursday event where we have a social evening in the week there’s a fifth Thursday in the month.

Our host provided some staple food and drink and the 20 guests brought the rest – everything from salads to sausage rolls, BBQ chicken to some fantastic cakes and the experiment worked really well.

Towards the end of a wonderfully hot ‘al fresco’ evening Dave held an unusual quiz.  He had distributed around his house and garden 22 numbered objects that you had to identify on a quiz sheet.  There were some really unusual items like a Davy Lamp, glass cutter, plane sharpener, jar opener some of which were difficult to identify.  The winner was Bev Smith who was awarded a box of chocolates for her superior knowledge.

All agreed that we should have more of these evenings on a Fifth Thursday. Dave said it was a casual gathering but he had clearly put a lot of planning and effort into it – well done Mr President.
