Charity Golf Day Raises £5,315

The Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock held its annual Charity Golf Day on 18 August at Orsett Golf Club, welcoming an impressive field of 115 golfers for a superb day of sport, fellowship, and fundraising.

The weather provided ideal playing conditions — fine, dry, and cooler than recent weeks — making it a perfect day for golfers to enjoy the beautifully presented course.

Strong Competition and Outstanding Scores

This year’s event produced some excellent golf, with both individual and team performances standing out:

• Individual Winner: Jason Howard with a remarkable score of 43
• Winning 4‑Ball: Gary Bennett, Dave Bennett, Jason Howard, and Danny Gallagher with a combined score of 131

The atmosphere throughout the day was friendly and competitive, with plenty of good humour as teams navigated the course and enjoyed the challenge.

In addition, 15 hole sponsors contributed to the event, helping us raise an outstanding £5,315 for Rotary’s charitable work. Their support ensures we can continue funding projects that make a real difference both locally and internationally.

A Day of Fellowship and Purpose

The day started with registration and the traditional bacon butties and coffee with a shotgun start at 1pm.

After completing their rounds, golfers gathered in the clubhouse for an evening meal, prizegiving, and the chance to relax together. As always, the Golf Day proved to be a highlight of the Rotary calendar — combining sport, community spirit, and meaningful fundraising.
