This year the Presidents weekend was held at Heythrop Park, a Warner hotel in the Cotswolds, from the 23rd to the 26thOctober and attended, in all, by 23 which included members and spouses. This is the time that the Club stops its fundraising and other charitable activities to celebrate the work and office of our President, Dave Wheatley.

The weekends organisers, Adrian and Sandra Alsop, had laid on a full schedule of activities, starting on Friday afternoon with a welcoming afternoon tea in the Churchill Room.  After tea we settled into our rooms, looked around this amazing hotel and in the evening after a drinks party in Dave’s room we had a meal together. We later retired to the late-night lounge with a show by entertainer Tom Barnwell who had us all dancing until late.

The next day, after a lavish breakfast we settled into various activities laid on at Heythrop Park which included courses for, archery, rifle shooting, axe throwing, cocktail making and using the pool and Spa facilities.  Some of us even had time to relax and read a book or walk the grounds. In the evening we had pre-dinner drinks followed by a Club dinner in a private room and listened to an excellent speech from our President.  Later we all retired to the Theatre for a performance by the Mumford & Co tribute band, ‘Chasing Mumford’. Some even had a go in the silent disco in the late bar.

The weather on the Sunday was better with bright sunshine and a stiff breeze and after breakfast most of the group went for a walk in the wonderful Cotswolds countryside.  President Dave had laid on two walks, a three mile walk to a local village for a pub lunch (which unfortunately only offered crisps) and for the more athletic, a 10 mile walk with a stop for a pint on the way.   In the evening there was a relaxed buffet dinner and a ‘back to the 60’s’ singing rock group, followed by Peter Kay on the big screen.

The next day we all met for breakfast and said farewells having enjoyed a great weekend which, most importantly our President said he also enjoyed.   Thanks again to Adrian and Sandra Alsop and our President for organising a memorable event.  Now the Club gets back into its normal activities and we are all looking forward to the forthcoming Youth Competitions and our Christmas fundraising.
