The Club’s Youth Services Team has enjoyed another highly successful year and is already planning next year’s programme.

Across the different events, around 500 students took part, demonstrating creativity, teamwork and impressive talent.

The year’s activities included a wide range of competitions and learning opportunities:

  • Technology Tournament: Held at the Cruise Terminal, where students showed resourcefulness and problem-solving skills as they developed technological solutions to the task set.
  • Mathletics Competition: Hosted at Gateway Academy, where students from Thurrock-based primary schools came close to beating the teachers’ team.
  • Young Artist Competition: Produced some fantastic works of art.
  • Young Writer Competition: Attracted a very large number of entries and showcased imaginative pieces of writing.
  • Young Photographer Competition: Generated a collection of thought-provoking images.
  • The Young Musician Competition: which uncovered some wonderful talent, with one of the winners now being entered into a BBC event, creating the exciting possibility that they may appear on television.
  • The Young Chef Competition: was equally impressive, with entrants producing food of an excellent standard.

One of the team’s latest activities is the introduction of the Leadership and Management Course, accredited by City & Guilds and the Institute of Leadership and Management. The outcome has been excellent: all 30 students were assessed by the Institute as meeting the required standard and have been awarded their Level 2 certificate.

The Youth Services Team gratefully acknowledges the support of its partner organisations.  Without their help, it would not be possible to run such a comprehensive programme of events. Looking ahead, the team is not resting on its achievements and is exploring the introduction of the CREST Award into next year’s Technology Tournament.

Thanks’ go to the Club's Youth Team for giving up so much of their time to make these events possible.
